Hand-crafted tiles each have unique characteristics.  These tiles will all vary in size, texture, and color consistency.

Unlike the mass produced ceramics, hand crafted tiles are individual works of art. They are individually formed by an artisan who presses them into a mold, which, alters the surface for the desired effect. 

Custom glazes are applied at various stages of the production process. Variables, such as temperature, humidity, and the method that is used to apply the glaze, can effect the way the glazes react in the kiln firing process.

It is impossible to repeat this process with exactness each time. This must be remembered when making a selection.  If you are concerned about this process, perhaps choosing a ceramic or porcelain would be wise.
